The Orange Society is a non-profit organization.

No one gets paid, we all come together and share the expense to create a totally unique experience. This is the magic that will propel the Orange Party towards a self-sustaining model that will reward the efforts of those of us that love it.

Story

In 1993 Gary Davis was living with some roommates. Prior to this he had been living in an Art Studio and had hosted special theme parties. While living with these roommates, one of them had decided it would be nice to have a party. Gary suggested a theme party. When they asked what kind of theme would be good, Gary (looking at a bag of Cheezes) said "Orange".

It needs to be understood that Gary is a creatively driven individual who enjoys Process as much if not more then the Product. Art is Process (The act of discovering and creating the art) and Product (The final expression of that creative process). Gary has had many years of experience with creative and eccentric people, and was a circus teacher at the famed Wavy Gravy Farm in California.

Orange

So, the premise would be simple. He and his roommates would invite people over and they would all be asked to "Bring something Orange". People came, got creative and weird, and Orange kick-knacks were pasted to the wall. People were dressed in Orange and it was fun. Something wonderful was discovered, and at the time no-one really cared about what the Orange Party might become, it was, what it was, and didn't need to be anything more.

As more Orange Parties happened, an evolution was in process, and Gary and those who attended the Orange Parties, had fun creating an experience they could enjoy unfettered by commercial interest. So, for some years after that it continued as carefully observed evolution.

Then in 1998 the Orange Party settled in one location for a while.

At Trout Lake, Gary and the Orange Party collided with the Fools Society, and the Zero Gravity Artists. This created the right atmosphere for the Orange Party to understand its jovial and experimental qualities, and reached 90% Orange for the first time. This means that the entire house was Orange (inside and out), all the people that came wore Orange, the food was Orange and the East-Side Freaks had a place to be themselves.

Then on February 2, 2002 the Orange Party evolved into the Orange Art Society. This was established to find a self-sustaining model that would allow the Orange Party to grow, unfettered by corporate interest, or individuals being strapped with the majority of the financial burden.

We said:
"Let's make everyone who attends and performs at the Orange Party responsible. We will find a way to create a self-sustaining model for this experience… "

So the Orange Art Society was officially incorporated into a not-for-profit arts organization, and created goals to achieve while staying true to the artistic integrity of the founding artists, and still maintain free to express their artistic impulse. This was the transformation of the Orange Party and the first all accountable, Orange Party was born on 02/02/02.

Now and the future

The goal of the Orange Art Society is to create a self-sustaining Orange Party and support Orange Art Society side projects, such as Camp Orange, and the Orange Biannually. This goal is to see a large scale, week long, above the board festival that can support an all out old school FREE orange party.

So (to sum up): In order to understand the Orange Party, you have to understand that this is in support of a long term vision that will one day be a series of domes connected by tunnels attached to a house with a Hot Tub and many other unimaginable Orange artistic expressions. For this to happen it MUST stay true to the Art (Visual and Performance) as the driving force. And MUST allow people to express themselves how they want to "as long as it's Orange ".
